[An old adage says, 'there is a woman behind every successful man'; I too attribute the beauty and success of my poems to women-- but many of them, including my mother (my first and ever eager audience), some friends, students, and connoisseurs-- all women. The present nazm (poem) draws its inspiration in part from a text message sent by a learned lady; and partly from the feelings I have recently experienced after losing a lovely woman-- my foster mother, my granny. Thanks to the inspirations, this poem has come out spontaneously, in one single spell after a considerably long period of my pen's futility. Here, I present this poem for the connoisseurs for reflecting on its worth......!]
हम अपनी -अपनी उलझन में , उलझे -उलझे से रहते हैं ;
और यूँ ही , एक -एक दिन कर के , हर साल बदलता रहता है ;
फिर एक पल (moment) ऐसा आता है, जब एक-एक कर के सब अपने ;
कुछ कहे बगैर, कुछ सुने बिना, चुपके से , जुदा हो जाते हैं ;
अफ़सोस बहुत तब होता है; दिल पछताता है, रोता है;
अफ़सोस बहुत होता है तब, उस प्यार का, जिसको जता ना सके;
दिल सोच के रोता रहता है, उन वादों को, जो किये नहीं;
आओ इस से पहले के, यह जो वक़्त बचा है थोडा सा;
हाथों से अपने निकल जाये, और उम्र का सूरज ढल जाये;
पी लें ;
